Letters – Why so Old-school?

A resident provides a few thoughts on Labour and Conservative election materials.

Not much online presence or links from either. Why aren’t flyers email for instance?

Some people avoid Facebook, where’s an online Labour site explaining issues and policies?

That way links could be embedded. [Voters] could be commenting [online], up voting, submitting ideas and issues across the area.

Dear resident,

I’m in IT so am keen to get more political engagement online. Like you say, it’s better for interaction as well as the environment. Not everyone is online though, so leaflet deliveries will always be an important method of communication.

Lately we have revamped our digital strategy, so hopefully you’ll be seeing a lot more going up. That’s just social media though. Facebook is our main digital presence and I understand it’s not for everyone. Personally I’ve used it very little for years and even now mostly just for political topics. But we are a small team of volunteers and have to focus our efforts where they’re going to have the biggest impact.

I’d love to make a national webpage that broke down into local issues and allowed constituents to engage in policy development – I have many pages of notes, designs and brainstorms already! One day I’d love to make it a reality…
