Grange and Alver Valley Anti-Social Behaviour Petition

Our petition:

Anti-social behaviour (ASB), often involving children aged 6-15, has become a persistent and escalating feature of our community experience. We recognise that 99% of young people in the area do not engage in ASB but we need help if things are to improve.

Promises of help have been made before but not followed through. As a community we have paid levies, maintenance charges and for repeated repairs to damaged communal assets, on top of our council taxes. We have Neighbourhood Watch schemes and report ASB to the police. However, due to an under-resourced force, no action has been taken so consistently that we question the point of continuing to make these reports.

Therefore, we, the undersigned residents of Grange and Alver Valley, call upon:

  1. Housing Associations – to make good the deficiencies in safety and security design of their buildings, amenities and spaces at no additional cost to residents.
  2. Vivid – to honour their agreements to the community and the Rowner Redevelopment Project (2007) in returning resources and decision-making back to community ownership.
  3. Gosport Borough Council – to provide the ward with its fair share of local authority resources to fund much-needed youth activities, as well as crime-prevention measures such as CCTV and to remind Vivid of its promises made in 2007.
  4. Hampshire County Council – to adequately fund Gosport police so that reported crimes can be logged AND investigated AND prosecuted.
